This is a fine US Model 1842 Percussion Musket manufactured by Springfield Armory with a .69 caliber barrel. The lock is marked “Spring/field/1853” behind hammer and there is a wingspread eagle over “US” forward of hammer. The barrel is dated “1853” on tang. The barrel breech has a correct VP/Eagle. All metal is superb with a bright, smooth finish. The musket is mechanically perfect. Walnut stock is nearly flawless with correct small inspector’s cartouche. There is one small ding along flat opposite of lock. Mint smooth bore! An exceptional weapon. [ss]
