This model 1836 was originally manufactured as a flintlock pistol by Asa Waters of Millbury, Massachusetts in 1844. Asa Waters of Millbury, MA and Robert Johnson of Middletown, CT produced 41,000 such pistols from 1836 through 1844. This 14” long percussion pistol is a .54 caliber smoothbore altered to percussion. Barrel measures 8 ½” with a fixed brass front blade, with a dark olive patina. Minor pitting around percussion nipple. Oval shaped rear sight on tang. Iran swivel ramrod mounted on underside of barrel.
Lockplate with maker’s name under brass plug stamped with “Eagle Head/A. Waters/Millbury, MA/1844” in front of hammer Letter “T” forward of maker’s mark. Barrel band has a strap extension that joins the side plate. All markings sharp and crisp. Nice dark olive patina on lockplate and hammer. Walnut stock has owner’s initials scratched into the wood next to side plate “J.M.”. Hairline crack on grip, with a cross “t” carved forward of the trigger guard, wood otherwise in very good condition. Mechanically perfect, all parts original, manufactured last year of production.
