This weapon was made from 1866 to 1878. Pistol has two barrels, one over the other, and both are .41. When the hammer is at half-cock the barrels can be flipped by depressing a button just above the trigger.
The 2 5/8 inch barrels retain approx. 80% of the original blue. Each barrel has its own brass blade front sight. One top barrel flat is clearly stamped “AMERICAN ARMS CO. BOSTON, MASS.” while the other is also clearly stamped with “PAT. OCT. 31, 1865-JUNE 19, 1865.” This patent stamping is missing the word “WHEELER’S” which shows that this weapon is an early production. Barrel swivels properly. Bore of both barrels have faint rifling and some pitting.
The frame is made of silver plated brass. Approx. 90% of the silver plate remains with the edges showing some brass. Trigger is integral part of the frame.
Rosewood grips are squared and in good condition. Serial number on frame at bottom of grips is “455”
Action works fine.
Less than 400 of these weapons were produced. [ad]
