This iron, brass and wooden handle bullet mold, in a very fine condition, was produced for the Civil War .44 caliber Starr Arms revolver. The .44 caliber Starr revolver was the third most common revolver in the war. Complete and in excellent working order, the bullet mold exhibits a single, tapered, wood-handle that supports a brass ferrule mated with a heavy brass mold atop the ferrule. Brass mold is bored out to a .44 caliber cavity and has a top hinged cover / iron sprue cutter that slides over the cavity to allow the molten lead to enter the mold. Total length of the mold is 5½” with the handle some 4¼” long. Brass mold wears a pleasing bronze patina while the iron sprue cutter has been japanned black. Wood handle is of walnut or oak and shows two thin lines of tooling near the tapered tip. Shows one crack at the upper tip near the ferrule. No markings visible. The Starr Arms Company went out of business in 1867. This fine, Starr bullet mold makes a wonderful adder to any .44 caliber Starr revolver display.
