Item Code: M17258

A survivor of the Civil War, this truly remarkable artifact is a packet of ten, .577 caliber, Ludlow-manufactured, ‘Enfield’ type combustible cartridges, still contained in its original packing material.  Produced for use with the British M1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, the ammo packet is of rectangular shape and measures 3½” long x 2½” wide x 1¼” high.   All ten, conical-shaped bullets are in original, untouched and unopened condition and lie wrapped tightly in their original paper with the entire packet of cartridges enclosed with the original, brown, waterproof paper wrap that has a printed label on the face.    The red ink, printed label reads, “1865 / FOR / RIFLE MUSKET – 53 / BULLET 568 Dia / WAX--- / POWDER 2½ Drs. / WOOD PLUG”.

Packet is in excellent condition with just normal surface dirt, a few slight scuffs and one small hole on the edge.    A very fine, scarce Civil War collectible that would enhance any infantryman or ammunition collection.
