The drawn sword meas. approx. 35.00 inches long.

The plated blade itself meas. approx. 29.75 inches long x 0.75 of an inch wide at the ricasso. It has a central fuller that starts just above the ricasso and runs for approx. 24.50 inches. The blade surface is bright and clean with light surface pitting on the point and up by the guard. Edge has several scattered small nicks. Both sides of the blade are etched with a riband that reads “U.S. MARINES.”

Hilt has an ivory grip with one small crack in the pommel area, otherwise it has aged nicely and has an attractive finish. Ivory grips are held to the hilt by two brass tacks, two on each side, and each has a five-pointed star on the face. Brass guard is the usual star shape with acorn quillons.

Plated metal scabbard is bright and has two small dents, one at the top and one at the bottom on opposite sides. Both ring mounts are made of brass and decorated with laurel leaves. Both iron rings are present. Brass drag is decorated with a floral design at bottom. Set screws for the drag are missing but the drag is firmly seated. Drag has a collection or museum number on one side.

USMC swords are hard to come by and this one is in nice condition.  [ad][ph:L]
