Blade is bright and clean with very small amounts of scattered mottling. Blade edge is very good. Obverse ricasso is stamped with “US DFM 1863” in three lines while the reverse is marked “EMERSON & SILVER, TRENTON N.J.” Markings are strong. Leather washer at base of ricasso is gone.
Cast brass grip is in good condition with a very nice dark patina. Knuckle bow has inspector’s initials to match those on the ricasso.
Blued metal scabbard is complete with brass throat and drag. Scabbard body is free of dents but does have some light scattered surface pitting. Both the throat and the drag have a patina that matches the hilt. The drag has inspector’s initials to match the ricasso and knuckle bow. Throat has brass elongated stud for attaching to a frog. [ad]
