REMINGTON MADE 1913 PATTERN BAYONET FOR THE ENFIELD P1914 RIFLE

$90.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1037-383

The British government contracted for the manufacture of the Pattern 1914 Enfield rifle with U.S. firms. The rifle was based on an experimental 1913 pattern, and the bayonet retained that pattern date (just to confuse things for the collector.) This one shows a Remington maker’s stamp on one side of the ricasso, along with the 1913 pattern date and “1 / 16” date code indicating actual manufacture in 1916. The other side of the ricasso has numerous British markings and the pommel has two sets of serial numbers.

The wood grips are very good with a tight fit to the metal. The pommel and guard show lots of blue. The ricasso shows a thinner blue, and the rest of the blade a mix of thin blue and some darker gray areas. The edge and point are good. There are just some light scratches on the reverse lower edge an inch above the 1913 stamp. The grips have the correct two grooves cut in them to distinguish the 1913 pattern bayonet from the similar, but not interchangeable 1907 pattern used on the Short Magazine Lee Enfield.  [SR]
