This is the saber bayonet used on the Model 1850 Sharps rifle. This one was manufactured by Ames. The recurved 21 ¾” blade is 1 ¼” inches thick. It has a semi-bright blade with some rubbing, and a few nicks on the cutting edge. The fuller is 14-3/4 inches in length. The blade is stamped “1862” on the obverse ricasso and “MADE BY AMES MFG. CO. / CHICOPEE / MASS’ on the reverse. The brass hilt is 4-7/8 inches long and has a semi-bright finish with a few dark spots. [sm]
