“General…..I would most respectfully request that Major Thomas W. Walker of this regiment to whom an order was given from you Head Quarter Nov. 19th “to proceed to Harrisburg PA for the purpose of procuring two companies for the regiment”, be ordered to proceed to Pittsburgh PA, should he fail to accomplish his object at Harrisburg.”
Endorsement text: “Head Quarters 3 Brigade 2 Div 12 Corps/Approved and respectfully forwarded/Geo Green Brig Gen comdg/3rd Brigade// Head Quarters 3rd Brigade/ Head Quarters 2nd Division/ Approved and respectfully forwarded/Jno W. Geary/Brig. Genl. Comdg.///Respectfully returned Maj. Walker has permission to go to Pittsburgh not to be absent more than ten days/ By Command of Maj. Gen. Slocum/ H. C. Rodgers/ a.a.g.”
Col. Geo. Cobham, 111th PA Infantry was killed 7/20/1864 at the Battle Peach Tree Creek during the Atlanta Campaign. At that time he was brevetted Brigadier Gen’l, USV, for distinguished services at Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge and other battles. Generals Geary and Greene served at Gettysburg, and Green was distinguished for his July 2nd & 3rd defense of Culp’s Hill. 12th Corps adjutant Hiram Cale Rodgers was brevetted Brigadier General, USV, 3/13/1865, for distinguished wartime service.
