This is a wonderful non-dug example of a Federal two-piece brass button as worn on many Vermont State soldiers’ uniforms. This coat-size button is of two-piece construction with a border. Retains over 80% of original gold gilt on the face. Button face is push-free. 23 mm. Button exhibits the head of a stag above a shield device with ribbon below, “VERMONT” and thirteen encircling stars around the perimeter, all on a lined field. Back is tarnished and slightly depressed with a strong, straight shank. Clear backmark of “D. EVANS & CO. ATTLEBORO, MASS” in a ribbon. Tice # VT230C1. This State of Vermont brass uniform button makes an excellent addition to any Civil War button display or Vermont-focused collection. [jet]
